What happens when thousands
of Chilliwack residents experience practical acts of kindness?
Chilliwack will experience an explosion
of kindness like never before. Inspired in part by Love
Abbotsford, a hugely successful kindness campaign
initiated in 2002, several local church leaders
decided to pool ideas and resources to launch Love Chilliwack
last year. Preparations are once again underway for this
years big event.
Everything from face-painting
for kids to free cans of pop, landscaping services and baked goodies will be used
to saturate the community in practical acts of kindness. "How much does it
cost?" will likely be the most common response when surprised residents are
offered a service on the upcoming Saturday. The answer, of course, is that it's
absolutely free! No fine print, no signing on the dotted line, it's just something
local Christians want to do for their community.
"Why are you doing
this?" may be the next question from those touched by the project. "Having
been given the extravagant gift of God's great love," explains one participant,
"what else could I do but pass it on?! I want to share Jesus' generosity,
his self-sacrificing love, with everyone I meet."
The desire of those
involved in Love Chilliwack is that this down-to-earth demonstration of God's
love will become a way of living. A smile and an unexpected act of kindness will
not only make your day, it could change your life!
